What do you do with words that inspire you?
So, what do you do when you are reading along and you find a passage that sings to you. In the past, I would have thought, wow, I want to write like that. Recently I spoke to a friend who has a different approach.
When my friend finds a line or a scene that touches her, she has a little notebook where she writes it down. She doesn't ignore it. She dedicates time to it. She told me if the writing impressed there that much, she wanted to remember how it was written. In writing things down, two things are accomplished. One, she keeps a copy of the writing that inspires her. And two, she studies how the words were written.
If your goal is to write as well as some of the authors whose books you simple breathe in, it could be that a notebook of words that inspire you might be for you.
